Join COMSYS as a PhD student or PostDoc

We currently have open positions for PhD students and PostDocs available that are to be filled within the next 12 months. 
In particular, we are looking for (young) talents who are dedicated and passionate about their interests and would like to work in and contribute to our collaborative team atmosphere.
The available positions are funded by different projects spanning our entire research portfolio, ranging from Industry 4.0 and large-scale Internet measurements to developing security and privacy mechanisms for health data or improving the reliability of critical infrastructure. Moreover, we conduct research in the area of coordination, networked control, and security/privacy in the (Infrastructural) Internet of Things, including (Smart) Energy Grids. As a PhD student at COMSYS, you will join a group of motivated colleagues and students and commence a journey that is designed to challenge you and stimulate personal growth. Your journey starts with the definition of your PhD thesis topic: while we will provide you with some initial ideas, the topic is not fixed from the start. Instead, we encourage you to discover which areas most interest you in the first months of your employment so that you can then gradually reshape and define your topic yourself. Through this process, which focuses on developing strong, independent personalities, you will have plenty of opportunities to develop and improve key professional and personal skills. In addition to doing your own research, you will develop leadership skills by supervising thesis students and guiding student assistants, gathering valuable project and/or teaching experience, and expanding your professional network, e.g., when presenting your work at international conferences.

To support you on this journey, we encourage our PhD students to participate in training courses, e.g., offered by the RWTH. Additionally, life at COMSYS is not all about work. Our annual retreat and chair excursions, as well as the legendary COMSYS BBQs, provide ample opportunity for personal engagements. Hence, at COMSYS, you can grow not only as a researcher but also as an individual and team player.
