COMSYS Researcher Ike Kunze Honored with 2024 ICT Young Researcher Runner-Up Award

Last week, COMSYS researcher Ike Kunze was presented with the 2024 ICT Young Researcher Runner-Up Award from the RWTH Profile Area "Information and Communication Technology" (ICT) for his outstanding research conducted during his Ph.D. studies.

Ike's work delves into the foundations of in-network computing and explores the applicability of this emerging paradigm across several ICT research fields, including the Industrial Internet of Things through his contributions to the Excellence Cluster Internet of Production.
Beyond his extensive academic achievements, Ike has shared his findings with the Internet Research Task Force's "Computing in the Network" Research Group. He is currently leading a collaborative effort to compile the experiences of international researchers from various in-network computing application fields into an upcoming informational Internet standard document.

With its yearly Young Researcher Award, the ICT profile area recognizes "Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. student[s] [...] who have contributed significantly to ICT-related research results". At the award ceremony, Ike received his award from Prof. Wil van der Aalst, the Speaker of ICT's Steering Committee, along with a prize of 1,000 Euros.
Ike also had the opportunity to briefly present an overview of his research to the other awardees and invited guests before a small informal gathering afterward.

We congratulate Ike on his success!

In addition, our former student, Laurenz Grote — previously advised by fellow COMSYS researcher Constantin Sander and, incidentally, Ike — was honored with the corresponding award in the Bachelor/Master category. At COMSYS, Laurenz first completed his Bachelor's thesis and then continued as a student assistant, ultimately leading to a co-authored paper with Ike and Constantin, which Laurenz presented at the 2023 IFIP/IEEE Network Traffic Measurement and Analysis Conference (TMA) in Naples.

Congratulations, Laurenz!
